Update!!!

So I am sorry about not updating you guys we went to the village for a few days and i had a ton of fun the first day we walked about two hours to go to a seperate village to pass out vegtable seeds. We got there and it was a really nice village, I think it was a higher class village because the houses were nicer and bigger and they had electricity a rare ocurance of the homes. We were invited in to a few houses to have Chi (Not a fan of chi I must say) Then when we were walking aroud we were dragged into a wedding party it was really cool we got to go and dance and just have fun it was nothing like am american wedding i can tell you that. The next day that we were camping i got sick and ended up staying in the tent all day sleeping. Then the next day we came home I had one day when we were here and got to go into town to pick a few things up and then got sick again yesterday i spent the whole day in bed more sick then the first time. All i was thinking was i want to be at home in my own bed with my mom with me. I am feeling a little better today but am going to take it easy. I will let you know what is going on in a few days!

  1. And it broke my heart to have you e-mail me that you were sick and wanted to be home in your bed. We have been praying that you would be better this morning. Everybody wants their mom when they are sick!! Love you Kirra xoxo

  2. Kirra,
I've been thinking a bit on your current situation. I know we have not had much opportunity to get to know one another, but I do know that you are a smart, vivacious, and compassionate young woman. I can also understand that you may not be able to capture in film all of the opportunities that you see, but reading how you feel about the young girl reminded me of a program called Kids with Cameras (http://www.kids-with-cameras.org/home/). A woman I know went into the districts of India and gave disposable cameras to young children and told them to photograph anything they saw that they thought beautiful, or that they thought sad.
Zana had 8 children that she would give cameras to while she lived in the red light district of Calcutta. These children were actually born into prostitution and when Zana exhibited their work, she told me that the proceeds went to helping the children get into schools. They actually made her story into a documentary called Born Into Brothels that has gotten a lot of acclaim at film festivals.
While Zana was in Calcutta, you have an entirely different aspect of India in your hands. Giving a camera to Shooshma may help others gain insight as to the strife and pain she goes through, as well as see what beauty they could be missing.

  3. Hi Kirra!
I am so sorry that you got so sick again...:-(
What a bummer, but I hope you are doing much better now. I think your mom should have a homecoming party for you when you return. She or maybe Mark huh?...can make your favorite dish with dessert (I hope it's that carrot cake!) and we can all celebrate your return!
I think you have already been gone 3 weeks so you are almost to the halfway mark. Hang in there and you need to remember what wonderful things you are doing! So many people look up to you for taking this trip! Take Care!
    Love,
    Carolyn
